The hall at Bristol Event Centre seen from the back of the room, set for a supper

La Broquerie · 20 minutes

Twenty minutes from La Broquerie, priced so you can sell tickets

The closest town to the hall after Steinbach itself. What we get asked for from here is nearly always a supper, a social or a benefit — events where somebody has to know the room cost before the tickets go to print.

Bristol is about twenty minutes west of La Broquerie, and the reason every rate on this site is published rather than quoted is the kind of event we get asked about from there: a supper, a social, a benefit, a fiftieth — the ones where a committee has to clear a number before anybody commits to anything.

You cannot price a ticket against a PDF that arrives in three days. So here it is: $500 for the whole building Monday to Thursday, $1,000 on a Friday or Sunday, $1,250 on a Saturday, $2,500 for the three days Friday to Sunday. Every add-on is on the pricing page at the same level of detail. Work out your break-even tonight.

And we take no share of your ticket sales, no share of the bar and no commission on the food, because we do not sell any of those things. The room rate, the add-ons you chose and 5% GST is the whole invoice — which also means the more successful your supper is, the more of it stays with you.

The drive

Getting here from La Broquerie

  1. Highway 52 west

Out of town toward Steinbach — PTH 52 ends here, so it is the road out. Twenty minutes, and the last ten are the same ten everyone from Steinbach drives.

  2. Round to the south side of Steinbach

You are aiming for Road 32 East, which runs east–west below the town.

  3. West on to Road 32 East

The hall is on the north side, set back off the road, parking lot in front of it. 31085 Rd 32 East.

Twenty minutes makes this the closest town to the hall after Steinbach — which is worth real money when the setup crew has to come out twice in a day, or when somebody has to drive back for the urns.

The hall at Bristol Event Centre in the evening with the lights on

The rental runs from 7 AM to midnight. Another $200 holds the building to 1 AM.

Selling tickets

The arithmetic of a benefit supper

Know the room cost first

A Friday at $1,000, the bar at $80, the late finish at $200 and the cleaning at $250 is $1,530 before GST. Divide by your ticket count and you have your floor, tonight, without ringing anybody.

The dishes are in the price

Tables, chairs, dishes and cutlery for two hundred are inside the hall rental. A supper that does not start with a china rental order is a supper with a better margin, and a commercial dishwasher on a two-minute wash and rinse is what makes the clearing up end.

Whoever is cooking, cooks

No in-house caterer, no approved list, no kitchen fee and no minimum spend — we do not sell food. Two fridges, a commercial dishwasher, a stove, a microwave and a coffee maker, handed over to your crew.

The bar is yours, and so is the take

The rolling bar is $80 for the day and backs onto the kitchen pass-through, so whoever is pouring is not cut off from the room. You obtain your own Social Occasion Liquor Permit from the LGCA; which type depends on whether you are selling drinks or serving them free, and we will tell you which. We do not sell alcohol and we take nothing from what you do.

Hall rental

  • Weekday, Monday to Thursday

The whole building, 7 AM to midnight, for five hundred dollars. Seminars, fowl suppers, showers, funeral lunches, reunions and AGMs all book this one.

    $500

  • Friday or Sunday

The same hall and the same hours as a Saturday, two hundred and fifty dollars less. Sunday afternoons get the west light off the field.

    $1,000

  • Saturday

7 AM to midnight on the busiest day of the week. Room for 200, with 180 sitting down comfortably for a plated supper.

    $1,250

  • The whole weekend, Friday to Sunday

Three full days for the price of two, and the late hours on Saturday night cost nothing. Decorate Friday, get married Saturday, load out Sunday in daylight instead of at one in the morning.

    $2,500

The add-ons a supper usually takes

  • Bar

The rolling bar, wheeled out to wherever you want it and backed onto the kitchen pass-through so whoever is pouring is not cut off from the room. You bring the drinks and the permit.

    $80/ day

  • Projector, Screen & PA System

Ceiling projector, drop-down screen, a wireless handheld mic, and house sound over 3.5 mm or Bluetooth. The line every seminar, AGM and slideshow-at-a-memorial adds.

    $125

  • Late-Night Extension to 1 AM

The rental runs to midnight; this holds the building to 1 AM. It costs nothing on the Saturday of a whole-weekend booking — that one is already included.

    $200

  • After-Event Cleaning

Floors, kitchen, washrooms and bins the morning after. Without it the hall has to be left as you found it — which on a wedding night means somebody's uncle mopping at two in the morning.

    $250

The rest of them — the stage, the coffee and tea, the late-night squares — are on the pricing page. None of them are compulsory and none of them are bundled in unless you ask.

A worked example

A benefit supper for 200 on a Friday

In at seven, run to one in the morning, cleaned up the day after, and costed to the ticket.

Friday full-day hall rental$1,000
The bar, for the day$80
Late-Night Extension to 1 AM$200
After-Event Cleaning$250
Subtotal$1,530
GST 5%$76.50
Total$1,606.50

$1,606.50 all in. At 200 tickets that is $8.03 each toward the room before a plate of food is costed — and it is a number you can take to the committee tonight rather than in three days. Setting the room up is your crew's job, not ours, and the food, drink and entertainment are yours to arrange and yours to keep the margin on.

Questions

If we are selling tickets, what does the room actually cost us?

A Friday with the bar, a 1 AM finish and the cleanup afterwards is $1,530 plus GST — $1,606.50 all in. At 200 tickets that is $8.03 each toward the room before you have costed a single plate of food. A midweek supper without the late finish starts from $500.

Do you take a cut of ticket sales or the bar?

No. We do not sell food and we do not sell alcohol, so there is nothing for us to take a percentage of. You pay the hall rental, whichever add-ons you picked, and 5% GST. That is the entire bill and there is no line under it.

Can we sell drinks at a fundraiser?

With the right permit, yes. It is a Social Occasion Liquor Permit from the LGCA, you apply for it yourself, and the type you need depends on whether you are selling drinks or serving them free. Apply at least four weeks ahead — we will tell you which one you are after.

When can our crew get in to set up?

At seven in the morning, and they have the building until midnight — the rental is the whole day rather than a block inside it, so for most suppers the setting up and the event fit inside the one booking. Twenty minutes each way also makes coming out twice a real option, and plenty of people do. If you want the room the night before as well, book that day too: there is no setup service to buy, because we do not set rooms or decorate them.

What holds the date, and when is the rest due?

A $500 damage deposit holds it, and it comes back within two to three weeks after the event if the building is undamaged. The balance is due one week before — which for a ticketed supper means after you have sold most of them, not before.

Put the date in and get your break-even.

The quote builder itemises the room and the add-ons and adds the GST, so the number you divide by your ticket count is the real one.
