Steinbach · 10 minutes

Hall rental, ten minutes out of Steinbach

Two hundred guests, a kitchen nobody will keep you out of, and a parking lot that takes the whole guest list. Close enough to town that you can walk through it on a lunch break.

Bristol Event Centre sits about ten minutes south of Steinbach on Road 32 East — close enough to come and see on a Tuesday afternoon, far enough out that the parking is a lot in front of the door rather than a fight over street stalls.

That ten minutes is most of the argument. Every other decision about an event here gets easier when the building is a short drive from the people doing the work: your setup crew can go home for supper and come back, a forgotten box is a twenty-minute round trip instead of a cancelled plan, and the caterer is not pricing in travel.

The rest of it is the room. One open rectangle with a vaulted ceiling and no pillars in the middle, two hundred at a buffet, 180 seated for a plated supper with the head table and a dance floor in. Tables, chairs, dishes and cutlery for all of them are already in the building, and so is the kitchen. So is the gazebo, which is roofed, so a ceremony outside does not hang on the forecast.

The drive

Getting here from Steinbach

  1. Head south out of town

Whichever road you normally leave Steinbach on going south will do. You are aiming for Road 32 East, which runs east–west below the town.

  2. Turn west on to Road 32 East

This is the last leg and it is the only part worth writing down. Good gravel-free road, and no highway driving anywhere in the trip.

  3. Watch the north side

The hall is on the north side, set back off the road on sixty acres, with the parking lot in front of it. 31085 Rd 32 East.

Ten minutes door to door. This is the one town where “can I come and see it now?” is a reasonable question — ring Helmut at (204) 326-7300 and he will meet you there.

The empty hall at Bristol Event Centre in daylight, showing the open floor and vaulted ceiling

This is how the room is handed over: the floor, the tables and the chairs, and nothing on them. Worth seeing empty once — it is easier to plan against than a photograph of somebody else's wedding.

Why people from town book it

The four things Steinbach actually rings about

The parking

On site, in front of the building, room for the whole guest list, and no walk in February. It costs nothing and cars can stay the night, which is what you want on an evening when there is a bar.

A kitchen nobody guards

There is no in-house caterer here, so there is nobody to keep your people out. Two fridges, a commercial dishwasher that runs a two-minute wash and rinse, a stove, a microwave and a coffee maker, with dishes and cutlery for the full room already in the rental. Bring Anna's All Occasions, bring a Winnipeg caterer, or bring your aunts.

One room, no posts

A single open rectangle with a vaulted ceiling. A supper for 180 and a dance floor fit without anybody sitting behind a pillar, and because it is one shape your decorator can plan it off a drawing rather than driving out first.

A gazebo for the ceremony

12 × 28 feet, roofed, lattice sides, a cedar deck and warm bulbs, and it is in the hall rental rather than on top of it. An outdoor ceremony here does not live or die on the forecast, because the wedding party is under a roof either way.

What the room costs

The hall rental is the only compulsory line on a Bristol invoice. Everything else — the bar, the stage, the projector, the cleaning, the coffee — is yours to take or leave, and all of it is on the pricing page. CAD, before 5% GST.

  • Weekday, Monday to Thursday

The whole building, 7 AM to midnight, for five hundred dollars. Seminars, fowl suppers, showers, funeral lunches, reunions and AGMs all book this one.

    $500

  • Friday or Sunday

The same hall and the same hours as a Saturday, two hundred and fifty dollars less. Sunday afternoons get the west light off the field.

    $1,000

  • Saturday

7 AM to midnight on the busiest day of the week. Room for 200, with 180 sitting down comfortably for a plated supper.

    $1,250

  • The whole weekend, Friday to Sunday

Three full days for the price of two, and the late hours on Saturday night cost nothing. Decorate Friday, get married Saturday, load out Sunday in daylight instead of at one in the morning.

    $2,500

A worked example

A Saturday for 180, with the family cooking

The most common booking we take from town: the building on a Saturday, food handled by people who are related to you, the bar wheeled out, and nobody mopping at two in the morning.

Saturday full-day hall rental$1,250
The bar, for the day$80
Late-Night Extension to 1 AM$200
After-Event Cleaning$250
Subtotal$1,780
GST 5%$89
Total$1,869

That is the building from seven in the morning until one the next, the rolling bar out where you want it, and the floors, kitchen and washrooms done the morning after. Tables, chairs, dishes, cutlery, the kitchen, the gazebo and the parking are already inside it. Setting the room and decorating it are yours — we do neither, and we rent no decor. Food, drink, flowers and music are not ours to sell you either, and are not in this number.

Before you ring

Questions

How far out of Steinbach is it, really?

About ten minutes: south out of town and then west on Road 32 East, with no highway driving in it. The address is 31085 Rd 32 East and it maps correctly — the hall is on the north side, set back off the road, with the parking lot in front of it.

Is there genuinely enough parking for 200 people?

Yes, on site and in front of the building, and it is not tight. It is the thing guests mention afterwards more often than anything inside the room. It costs nothing, and cars can stay overnight — so if people are drinking, a car left in the lot and collected in the morning is the plan, not a problem.

Can we come and look at the hall this week?

Ring Helmut at (204) 326-7300 and pick a time. Ten minutes from town means a walk-through is a lunch break rather than an afternoon, and nobody should put a deposit on a room they have only seen photographs of.

Is a country hall cheaper than booking a room in town?

We will not quote anybody else's numbers because we cannot check them. What we will do is publish ours: $500 Monday to Thursday, $1,000 Friday or Sunday, $1,250 Saturday, $2,500 for the Friday-to-Sunday weekend. That price includes tables, chairs, dishes, cutlery, the kitchen, the gazebo and the parking — so when you compare two quotes, ask the other place whether theirs does.

Can we hold the ceremony outside?

There is a 12 × 28 gazebo here and it is included with the hall rather than added to it: roofed, lattice sides, a cedar deck, warm bulbs strung through it. What that buys you is an outdoor ceremony you do not have to call off at noon over the forecast, because at minimum the wedding party stays dry.

We are looking at wedding venues near Steinbach. Which dates go first?

Summer Saturdays, and they go twelve to eighteen months out. Fridays and Sundays at $1,000 stay open much longer for the identical room and the identical hours. A $500 damage deposit holds whichever date you pick, and it comes back within two to three weeks after the event if the building is undamaged.

Do we have to use your caterer?

There isn't one. No in-house catering, no approved list, no kitchen fee and no food and beverage minimum, because we do not sell food or alcohol at all. The kitchen — two fridges, a commercial dishwasher that runs a two-minute wash and rinse, a stove, a microwave and a coffee maker — is handed over to whoever you bring, family included.
